You don’t gripe about what it takes to make things happen. You do the good work. And sometimes that work is terrifying and trying. You know all about the constant racing for success – to deliver the mission, to connect to your clients and the cause, to be a productive part of the team, to lead the people who are counting on you. The pressure to accomplish and succeed can lead you to high stress levels and habitual, unconscious goal setting; always more, always farther away, never enough.
We have the procedures of achievement upside down. Typically, we start by listing the stuff we want to accomplish, have, get, experience. Most of us concentrate our attention on what and how, not why. When really, our aspirations are all driven by a desire to feel a certain way.
Cynics would say that choosing to place your focus on feeling good is silly – maybe, even selfish. But I (and thousands of other Desire Mappers around the globe) know better. Because who wants to live a life that doesn’t feel good? How can you connect; how can you help anyone else if you don’t feel good yourself?
